Verna Prettyman, 91, died peacefully at her daughter's home December 2, 1999.

She was born July 23, 1908 in Ogden, Utah to William Albert and Sara Eliza Douglas Reeve. She was one of nine children, five brothers, Doug, Don, Ollie, Harry and Bill Reeve; three sisters, Hazel, June Day and Mabel Juniel, who have preceded her in death.She married James Sermon Smith in Washington, DC on Oct. 21, 1932, they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1960.

She is survived by four children, Sidney Hughes; Sally Aste; Susie Martin and Jim (Marion) Smith; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

She married Howard Walter Prettyman in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 8, 1978 and lived there 14 years until the time of his death.

Verna earned a two year teaching certificate from Utah State University, where she was affiliated with Sorosis Sorority. She graduated with a degree in Special Ed. from the University of Utah in 1959. She worked as a teacher, legal stenographer, real estate sales person and broker.

Verna enjoyed life to the fullest. She was active in many clubs and loved to entertain and travel.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lincoln Heights Ward, 606 East 3900 So. on Sat., December 4 at 11 a.m. The family will be there to meet with friends and family one hour prior to the services.
