The First Presidency has announced the dates for the dedication and open house of two South American temples.

The Bogota Colombia Temple will be dedicated April 24-26, with a public open house from March 27 to April 17. The Guayaquil Ecuador Temple will be dedicated May 22-24, with the public open house May 1-15.The Bogota temple was announced April 7, 1984, by President Gordon B. Hinckley, then-second counselor in the First Presidency. Ground was broken on June 26, 1993, by Elder William R. Bradford of the Seventy and then-president of the South America North Area.

The 53,500-square-foot temple, located on a 3.71-acre site in the Niza section of Bogota, about 10 miles from downtown, is constructed in a classic modern architectural style. It includes four ordinance rooms and three sealing rooms, and will serve a temple district comprised of Colombia.

The Guayaquil Ecuador Temple was announced March 31, 1982, by President Hinckley, then a counselor in the First Presidency.

Ground was broken Aug. 10, 1996, by Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve. Design of the 45,000 square-foot temple is of modern-style architecture, and includes four ordinance rooms and three sealing rooms. The temple is located on a 6.2 acres site in El Principado de Las Lomas and will serve a temple district comprised in Ecuador.

When the temples are dedicated, there will be nine temples in use in Latin America, with another 14 announced.
