Caroline Eyring Miner passed away April 19, 1999, in Cedar Hills, Utah after a lingering illness.
She was born December 14, 1907, to Edward Christian and Caroline Cottam Romney Eyring in Colonia Juarez, Mexico. In 1912, Pancho Villa's rebels drove the Mormon colonists out of Mexico, so Caroline grew up in Pima, Arizona. She married Glen Bryant Miner May 20, 1931, in the Mesa, Arizona, LDS temple. He passed away June 8, 1996.She received a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University and her Master of Arts from Utah State University. Caroline was the author or co-author of eighteen books, and hundreds of poems and essays; 1973 Utah Mother of the Year; 1976 Utah Poet of the Year; twice winner of the Deseret News Christmas Poetry Contest. Caroline was a teacher of English and creative writing for 32 years. She was honored in 1969 as Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher of the Year. For 20 years she served on the Young Women's General Board of the LDS Church. She was President of the League of Utah Writers; president of the State and Salt Lake Chapters, National League of American Pen Women; world traveler to many countries on all seven continents including Antarctica; recipient of the Alumni Distinguished Service Award and Distinguished Motherhood Award from Brigham Young University.
She is survived by her eight children and their spouse: Caroline Miner Morgan and Ed of Salt Lake, Edward Miner and Dawna of Ogden, Bryant Miner and Karen of Ogden, Rosemary Miner Fairbourn and Clayton of Sandy, Henry Miner and Kay of Newburg, Indiana; Camilla Miner Smith and George of San Francisco, California; Joseph Miner and Gwen of Springville, and Steven Miner and Marilyn of Vienna, Virginia. Brothers and sisters: Catherine E. Edwards, Rose E. Calder, Ruth E. Williams, Maurine E. Boyd, Ethel E. Taylor, Jeneveve E. Layton and LeRoy Eyring, also 48 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, brothers and sisters: Camilla E. Kimball, Mary Eyring, Henry Eyring, Edward Eyring, Leland Eyring, Joseph Eyring, Anthony Eyring, Isabel E. Taylor, Miles Eyring, Margaret Eyring, a daughter-in-law, Janice Mabey Miner, and a grandson, Dempster Smith.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to Glen Dora Galbraith for the kind, loving care she has provided during the past six years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 22, 1999, at the Monument Park 9th Ward Chapel, 1565 South Foothill Drive, SLC, at 11 a.m. Family and friends may visit Wednesday, April 21, at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, SLC, from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the Monument Park Chapel. Interment will be at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
