True or False? Laundry detergent is a common cause of skin rashes.

False. If clothes run through a full hot, warm or cold cycle, the rinse should clear away any detergent irritants, such as perfumes. Fabric softener dryer sheets, however, are a common cause of red, itchy skin because their perfumes are more concentrated and aren't rinsed away. Likely targets for these rashes are where clothing holds tight -- such as the waist, where an elastic band may rest. If your child has sensitive skin or allergies, use fabric softeners in the washing machine instead.
