Here, Elizabeth reeled together the hair-like fibers from 16 cocoons to create a thread thick enough to make silk stockings for their good friend, Brigham Young, while Thomas excelled in the building trades as a carpenter, and also as a horticulturist, growing beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.Today, the Whitaker home, located at 168 No. Main, is listed on the National Register of Historical Homes and is used as a museum for the Centerville Historical Society.
