The LDS Church Education System and the Western Governor's University have been selected to participate in a new federal financial aid program specifically designed to benefit distance-education students.
The demonstration program designates 15 post-secondary schools, systems and consortia from across the county to allow distance-education students to benefit from all types of federal financial aid. Participating are 118 institutions located in 17 states.The LDS Church Education consortium consists of Ricks College, Brigham Young University, LDS Business College and Brigham University-Hawaii. Currently, 18 states support Western Governor's University. Its administrative offices are housed in Salt Lake City and academic offices are in Denver.
The demonstration program will test new ways of delivering federal aid to students involved in distance education programs. The projects are expected to continue for five years, and an additional 35 projects may be added for the third year of the program, according the U.S. Department of Education.
