FILLMORE--Fern Melville Holdaway died July 3, 1999 in Spokane, Washington, at the age of 93.
She was born Feb. 16, 1906 in Fillmore, Utah, to George and Nellie Ashman Melville. She married Orin J. Holdaway June 2, 1926 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.She was raised and educated in Fillmore. Following her marriage, she lived and raised her family in Afton, Wyoming. She then lived in Ogden, Utah, for nine years and returned to Fillmore in 1967. She had resided in Spokane, Washington for the past two years.
She was active in the LDS Church and served in the Relief Society, Primary, and Sunday School at both the stake and ward levels. She was actively engaged in the retail industry for many years, including eight years with the Bon Marche department store in Ogden. She also served in various capacities with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Afton and Fillmore civic organizations, and the Millard County Cancer Society.
She is survived by sons Donald (Doris), Spokane, Washington; Ronald (Judith), Fairfax Station, Virginia; and Scott, Rancho Mirage, California; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and son, John. Another son, Gordon, died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 8, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Fillmore 4th Ward Chapel, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial in Fillmore City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Mortuary of Fillmore.
