It's official! Olden Polynice is a member of the Utah Jazz after passing a physical exam Tuesday.
Polynice, a free agent center, had only to pass the physical to validate a two-year contract he signed with the team last week. Terms of the deal were not available. The addition of Polynice gives the Jazz a 7-foot, 250-pound veteran who has averaged 8.3 points and seven rebounds during his 12 years in the NBA. He played for Seattle last season, averaging 7.7 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
Polynice, who will turn 35 in November, was at his best during the 1993-94 season, when he averaged career highs of 11.6 points and 11.9 rebounds while playing for Detroit and Sacramento.
A time for Polynice's introduction to the Utah media has yet to be set, although the Jazz have scheduled an 11 a.m. press conference on Thursday to introduce their new vice president of basketball operations -- Kevin O'Connor. O'Connor will assume the duties of Scott Layden, who last month left the team for a similar position with the New York Knicks.
