Lycos has been trying to beef up its Web presence in the face of competition from America Online, Microsoft and Yahoo. Lycos and its competitors are trying to keep users coming back by becoming one-stop-shops that offer everything from e-mail to news to stock tips.

Lycos will get access to Quote.com's growing base of subscribers who pay for extra features like chart-making tools that help investors track stocks. About 10,000 people subscribe to the service, which costs between $25 to $100 per month.
