Character is gay, actor is straight

Jonathan Taylor Thomas says he's not concerned about whether rumors will surface about his sexuality because he plays a gay character in an upcoming cable TV movie."I'm playing a role. I'm not gay," the 18-year-old said in the Jan. 29 issue of TV Guide. "I'm not going to sacrifice the opportunity to play a great part just because the character is gay."

Thomas, who gained fame on "Home Improvement," is featured in the Showtime movie "Common Ground."

"At some point, every male actor in Hollywood has been (rumored to be) gay," he says. "I just (got) it when I was 16, but hopefully it's done with now."

Fire damages room in Hopkins' home

Flames badly damaged an upstairs bedroom of Sir Anthony Hopkins' four-story brick row house, according to a newspaper report.

No one was in the house at the time, the Sun said in Monday's editions.

Firefighters said the actor's wife returned home as they fought the blaze in the Knightsbridge district of London.

The bedroom in which the blaze broke out was badly damaged, but the rest of the house was intact despite a small amount of smoke damage, said Max Dissanayake, assistant division officer with the London Fire Brigade.

Exhibit to put Elvis with ex-presidents

It's probably a safe bet that the King of Rock 'n' Roll never hung out with Harry Truman or Franklin D. Roosevelt.

But now Elvis Presley will share a space with the former presidents in a new exhibit. The "Looking Back on the American Century" exhibit opens Feb. 5 at the Truman Library in Independence, Mo.

On display will be stage suits from Presley and John Lennon, handcuffs from which magician Harry Houdini escaped from, a motorcycle James Dean rode, Walt Disney's Academy Award for creating Mickey Mouse and a dinner menu from the Titanic.

A cloak worn by Roosevelt will also be included.
