IRONMAN: Canada's Peter Reid won his second Ironman Triathlon World Championship in three years Saturday, while wife Lori Bowden finished second in the women's race.

Reid, 33, completed the 140.6-mile course in 8 hours, 21 minutes, 1 second, more than two minutes ahead of runner-up Timothy Deboom of Boulder, Colo.

"This makes up for all those months feeling depressed and watching other guys win races," Reid said. "To finish the year with a win in Hawaii makes it all worthwhile."

Some 1,500 competitors took part in the 22nd annual Ironman, which includes a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile cycle and 26.2-mile run on the Big Island's Kona and Kohala coasts.

Reid and Bowden were looking to become the first husband and wife to sweep the gold medals in the world championship.
