Ray William Saunders passed away in his home Dec 14, 2000. Ray was 80 years young.

Born July 1, 1920 in Salt Lake City to David and Daisy Saunders. He was the 9th of ten children and adored the attention of his seven big sisters. Ray grad-uated from East High School and attended the University of Utah for two years, though he enjoyed playing pool more than the books! He served in the US Army during World War II, station-ed in the Philippines and Japan. He married Donna Derr while stationed in Ft. Bragg, No. Carolina, before his deployment. They were married 54 years.

He was the owner and operator of the Clock Cafe in Salt Lake City for over 40 years. He was the self-proclaimed "unofficial mayor of 4th South".

After retirement he enjoyed gardening, volunteering as a driver for Salt Lake Aging Services, his dog Mitzi, and all his family and friends. He will be remembered by his cheerfulness and style. He loved his neighbors and loved to chat while on his walks.

Ray was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Donna, in 1996. He is survived by his two daughters: Kevan Saunders-Shaughnessy of Olympia, WA and Sara Saunders Muir of Northridge, CA and brother, Paul Saunders of Salt Lake City. He has five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2000 at 12 noon at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, where friends and family may call from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Salt Lake Humane Society in his name.
