A woman who won $500,000 on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" will establish a scholarship in memory of a classmate who died in high school.

Patricia Thompson won the prize money in November. She will donate $10,000 to start the Charles Bartz Annual Scholarship Award at Newark Valley High School in Newark Valley, N.Y., $500 a year to a student who wants to study the fine arts in college.

"Off and on, I'd think about him and wonder what he would be doing now if he had lived," said Thompson, a graphic designer who lives in St. Paul, Minn.

Bartz had planned to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. He died of a combination of alcohol and the painkiller Darvon a month before graduation in 1977.
