TROPIC, UTAH-- Beloved husband, father, stepfather, and grandpa, Royal Alvey, 88, of Tropic, Utah, returned to his Heavenly Father April 15, 2000, in Panguitch, Utah.
He was born April 30, 1911, in Escalante, Utah, to George and Ann Spen-cer Alvey. He was raised and educated in Escalante. He married Nina Pollock and was sealed in the St. George LDS Temple, May 27, 1937. She preceded him in death July 22, 1953. He married Rella Ott Shakespear, September 15, 1956.He was employed at Ruby's Inn in his early life and then worked in the timber industry, retiring after 35 years. He then worked for the City of Tropic for 17 years. He retired at the age of 83.
All his life he worked hard and took pride in all that he did. He wanted things done the right way. He was a kind, gentle and patient man. He did not complain about the adversity that life dealt him. He was a man of integrity. He was honest and fair in his dealings with his fellow men. He had a keen sense of humor. He loved his family and everything he did was done for them. He was an Elder in the LDS Church.
He is survived by his wife, Rella, Tropic; children, Gayla Jean (Steve) Hales, Redding, CA, Kenneth Royal (Ida) Alvey, Las Vegas, NV, Afton (Frank) Branch, North Salt Lake, Kim Alvey, Richfield, Kerry (JaNeil) Alvey, Florence (MonDell) Syrett, both of Tropic, Carole (Harry) Cloward, West Valley City, Marvin Shakespear, Tropic, Sonia (Lynn) Allen, Panguitch; 28 grandchildren; 17 great-grand-children; and sister-in-law, Juanita Felix. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Nina; brothers, Mark, Mazel, Victor; sisters, Thelma Syrett, Edna Peterson, Clema Lund; and grandson, Tracey.
His family loved him dearly and will miss him.
Services will be Wednesday April 19, 2000, at 1 p.m. in the Tropic LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call Wednesday from 11 a.m. to12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Tropic Cemetery. Funeral directors, Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield, UT.
