Joe Clifford Maxwell, Sr., 69, of Dothan, passed away Thursday evening, May 18, 2000, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan following a cardiac arrest.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2000, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dothan, Alabama.The family request flowers be omitted and contributions be made to The American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6267, Dothan, Alabama 36302.

Mr. Maxwell was born in Oakley Summit County, Utah on Christmas Day, 1930 to James Clifford and Thelma Seymour Maxwell. Joe served two years as a volunteer missionary in northern California for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He met his future wife, Doris E. Berry in South Carolina and on August 14, 1954, they were married.

Joe was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for seventeen years and was transferred to Dothan.

He was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities including Bishop for eight years and State Financial Clerk in Dothan, Alabama. He was doing the work he loved best, church work, when he had

his cardiac arrest. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. The Lord and his family were the most important things in his life. His family will sorely miss him but they know he has gone home.

Mr. Maxwell is survived by his wife, Doris E. Maxwell, Dothan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Richard Wells, Atlanta, Georgia; Denise and Kenneth Poitevint, Dothan, Alabama; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe C. Jr. and Jennifer Maxwell, Brunswick, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grand-children; two sisters, Donna Pace, Las Vegas, Nevada; Verona Lewis, Draper, Utah; five brothers: Jay S. Maxwell, Hayburn, Idaho; John O. Maxwell, Boise, Idaho; Arlo Maxwell, Las Vegas, Nevada; James L. Maxwell, Harmony, Utah; Byron S. Maxwell, Sandy, Utah.
