HCA said Thursday it is changing its name to MountainStar Healthcare, but its six Utah hospitals will keep their existing names.
Spokeswoman Twinkle Chisholm said the new name was selected to to emphasize the health-care network's Utah roots.Changing the name comes on the heels of a corporate decision to change the name of the parent company from Columbia/HCA to HCA -- the Healthcare Company. That new name will not be promoted locally, said Chisholm, and Utah hospitals that belong to the group "are encouraged to establish their own identity."
She said there is an advantage, locally, to having a network identity and identifier, in addition to individual hospital names.
The six hospitals now under the MountainStar Healthcare umbrella are St. Mark's Hospital, Salt Lake City; Lakeview Hospital, Bountiful; Timpanogos Regional Hospital, Orem; Ogden Regional Medical Center; Brigham City Community Hospital; and Mountain View Hospital, Payson.
The six MountainStar Healthcare hospitals employ some 4,000.
