LOS ANGELES (AP) — Joey Buttafuoco and his wife, Mary Jo, who stood by him for eight years after she was shot by his teenage lover, have separated after 23 years of marriage.
"They are not living together anymore, but they have not initiated any divorce proceedings," Dominic Barbara, Mary Jo Buttafuoco's lawyer, said Wednesday. The reason for the split was not disclosed.
The Buttafuocos live separately in the Los Angeles area. They have a 20-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter.
In 1992, Buttafuoco's then 17-year-old lover, Amy Fisher, shot Mary Jo Buttafuoco in the head in front of the Buttafuoco home on New York's Long Island. The "Long Island Lolita" served almost seven years in prison. And Buttafuoco himself did four months for having sex with a minor.
The Buttafuocos moved to California in 1996.
