1888: Idaho settlers establish Bannock Stake Academy, an elementary school.

1898: School renamed Fremont Stake Academy and high school courses added.

1903: School is renamed Ricks Academy.

1915: College courses are first taught.

1920s: Rumors persist the school will close.

1930: LDS Church offers to give the school to the state of Idaho, but the offer is rejected.

1944: School student body is 200.

1949: Ricks becomes a four-year college.

1956: Ricks returns to two-year status.

1971: Student body totals 5,150, and Ricks becomes the nation's largest, private two-year college.

1984: An enrollment ceiling of 7,500 is established.

2000: Announcement made to change name to BYU-Idaho in near future, become a four-year college again and to discontinue all intercollegiate sports.
