PRINCETON, N.J. — Interpool Inc., which leases cargo containers, said Friday it agreed to acquire Transamerica Leasing Inc.'s intermodal business for $675 million to get more customers and expand its container fleet.

Intermodal containers are containers that can be moved by railroad, ships or trucks. Dutch financial services and insurance giant Aegon NV picked up the business last year when it acquired Transamerica Corp.

Interpool, Princeton, N.J., said it expects to complete the deal by year's end. Shares of Interpool, which had $217.8 million in revenue last year, traded at $11.625 apiece, up 25 cents, or 2.2 percent, on the New York Stock Exchange early Friday.
