LAYTON - DeVon Mecham Worsley, passed away on August 22, 2000.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Ada Mecham Nielsen on August 18, 2000.
The family would like to thank the professional staff at Wintergarden in Layton, and the professional staff at Heritage Park Care in Roy, who made his final days comfortable and meaningful.
DeVon was born on June 18, 1929 in Preston, Idaho, the son of John Harold Worsley and Ada Mecham Worsley. He was raised in Logan, Utah. Ada married Russell C. Nielsen in December 1937, and Russell raised DeVon as his own. DeVon married Isabelle Prignano-Hoeltje in 1953, they were later divorced and remained friends. He was a member of the LDS Layton 10th Ward.
DeVon was patriotic and was the first soldier from Utah wounded in the Korean War. He received two purple hearts, one bronze star and a silver star.
He was very proud of his family. He taught his sons that they were no better than anyone else and that no one was better than his sons. DeVon loved singing and had a beautiful voice. He loved music and old movies.
Surviving are his sons, Walter William Hoeltje III, St. Charles, ILL; and his children Tracy and Margaret, Donald A. Hoeltje, Laguna Niguel, CA; Keith A. Worsley, Mesquite, NV; and his children, Joshua, Blake, Tiffani, and Kristle; Steven B. Worsley, Clearfield; his children, Shaylyn, Steven DeVon, Shaundra, Shane and Sheldon. He also had eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, John Harold Worsley, his father, Russell C. Nielsen, and his mother, Ada Mecham Nielsen, and grandson, Sollie Newell Worsley.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 South State Street. Friends and family may call at the mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. with Bishop William E. Moyes, Layton 10th Ward, officiating. Interment, Logan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a contribution in his name, to Disabled American Veterans is appreciated.
