GENEVA, Ill. (AP) — An ex-con who killed two people and injured 16 others in a shooting rampage at a crowded bar has received a death sentence.

A jury deliberated for 2 1/2 hours Tuesday before returning the sentence against Luther Casteel, 43.

Casteel was thrown out of JB's Pub in Elgin, about 35 miles west of Chicago, on April 13 after drinking heavily, harassing women and fighting with bar employees. He returned about an hour later wearing a gas mask and carrying four guns.

Witnesses said he yelled profanities and asked for the man who threw him out. He killed Elgin residents Richard Bartlett, 48, and Jeffrey Weides, 38, a bartender in the tavern.
