WASHINGTON (AP) — Strom Thurmond Jr., son of the nation's oldest and longest-serving U.S. senator, on Tuesday was approved as the top federal prosecutor in his father's home state of South Carolina.

The nomination of Thurmond Jr., 29, to be South Carolina's U.S. attorney was confirmed Tuesday night by voice vote in the Senate, along with those of nine other U.S. attorneys from around the nation.
