NEW YORK — Monteria Ivey, a comedian, radio personality and author known for his snappy insults and writings on African American humor, died Dec. 13 of diabetic shock. He was 41.
With longtime friend Stephan Dweck, Ivey was co-host of a New York sports radio show.
Ivey was born in New York and started acting in high school before attending Dartmouth College.
After graduation, Ivey began doing stand-up comedy, specializing in the form of insult known as "snapping." His collected snaps, or one-liners, later resulted in several books and two television specials.
He also co-authored several other books — including "Snaps," "Double Snaps," and "Triple Snaps" — that traced the development of African American humor from slavery to contemporary urban comedy.
