SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Santa Fe artist Isa Barnett, whose illustrations appeared on the covers of The Saturday Evening Post, Life and National Geographic, died Sunday. He was 78.

Many of Barnett's early paintings featured Civil War battles and American Indians. In the 1970s he spent time in Santa Fe as art director of a Franklin Mint project, coordinating the work of Allan Houser, Fritz Scholder and other Indian artists contracted to produce artwork that later appeared on coins.

In the 1960s he made a series of paintings for the New York World's Fair on the life of Abraham Lincoln, which are now in the Gettysburg Museum.
