Former Utah House of Representatives member John B. "Jack" Arrington died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at age 81.

A conservative Democrat, Mr. Arrington represented Ogden in the Legislature from 1978 to 1998. He worked on numerous committees including the House Judiciary Committee and the Public Education Appropriations Committee.

Mr. Arrington also was an Ogden City Council member for 10 years prior to being elected to the House.

He served in the Army during World War II and was in the Utah National Guard, Army Reserve and Air Force Reserve for 30 years. He worked as a production controller at Hill Air Force Base.

As a long-time member of the Lions Club, he held the offices of president, secretary and district governor. He served as a bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked with his wife, Vera, as a missionary in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

Mr. Arrington attended Ogden High School and Weber State College.

Funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the River Parkway Ward, 1051 21st St., Ogden. Viewings are scheduled for today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday, April 2, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.

Mr. Arrington will be buried in the Ogden City Cemetery with military honors.
