The Utah Blitzz soccer team, 2000 Western Conference champions, have once again been left out of the Utah public eye due to the lack of exposure.
Unfortunately, the team has to play in Provo, and the bulk of the fans have to drive many miles to support the club. The conference-leading teamhas a record of 7-1-1 and has outscored opponents 26-7, and yet the general Utah public has no idea who the Utah Blitzz are.
Admittedly, they are a D3 team, which means they are two leagues down from Major League Soccer, but with qualifying for the U.S. Open Cup elimination round by destroying the opposition in their grouping, there is a good chance that the Blitzz will host a Major League Soccer team in that tournament. That would be equivalent to the Colorado Rockies playing in Ogden against the Raptors. This is a big deal.
It is sad to see such a great team here in Utah, playing the world's most popular sport and Utah having no knowledge that this team exists.
Hopefully next month the team will be playing back here in Salt Lake and the usual 2,000- to 3,000-person crowds will be attending and watch the Blitzz win another conference championship. With more exposure, the Blitzz attendance could double. This year they have a good shot at finishing first in D3.
Please help the general Utah public by letting them know who the Blitzz are, and let them read a large article on the previous night's game instead of reading the paragraph in the "other sports" section.
