INDIANAPOLIS — Rita Williams scored six of her 21 points in overtime to lead the Indiana Fever to an 86-78 win over the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday.

Williams, who matched her career-high in scoring, also had career bests of nine rebounds and nine assists.

Stephanie McCarty scored 17 points in a reserve role and Olympia Scott-Richardson added 14 as Indiana (5-8) snapped a two-game home losing streak.

Indiana scored 18 points in the overtime, breaking the WNBA record of 17, established by New York, at Orlando, on July 29, 1999.

Trisha Fallon scored 18 points for Phoenix (4-9), which lost its fourth straight. Maria Stepanova had 17 points and nine rebounds, Lisa Harrison scored 15 points and Jennifer Gillom added 11.

The Fever rallied from a 19-point first-half deficit and took a 68-65 lead with 51 seconds remaining in the second half. But Fallon hit a baseline jumper with 44 seconds left, and Michele Timms hit one of two free throws with five seconds remaining to tie the score and force overtime.

Phoenix charged to a 17-3 lead and built its lead to 19 points, 24-7, with 12:25 left in the first half.

Indiana chipped away at the deficit and scored nine straight points late in the first half to close within 38-32.

Indiana played its fifth straight game without forward Alicia Thompson, who returned to her home following the death of her mother.

The Fever placed forward Danielle McCulley on the disabled list due to an injured left Achilles tendon and activated guard Monica Maxwell.

MYSTICS 76, MIRACLE 64: At Washington, Vicky Bullett matched her career high with 24 points and the Washington Mystics scored the first 15 points of the second half in a 76-64 victory over the Orlando Miracle on Sunday.

Orlando (4-9) opened the game with an 8-0 run and went on to a 39-31 halftime lead. However, Washington (4-9) started the second half with a 22-2 run to take a 53-41 lead.

Bullett, who tied teammate Murriel Page with a game-high nine rebounds, scored three straight baskets in the first 90 seconds and set up Nikki McCray's layup that tied the game at 39 with 17:55 left. McCray went on to score 16 of her season-high 18 points in the second half, including a 3-pointer that gave Washington a 51-41 lead.

Bullett's previous 24-point effort came on July 3, 1999, and was also against Orlando. McCray's five steals also were a season high. Chamique Holdsclaw added 15 points for Washington.

Nykesha Sales and Shannon Johnson led Orlando with 14 points each.

Washington, which looked struggled offensively in the first half, rebounded to finish with season highs of 30 field goals and a 52.6 shooting percentage.

The defense was also much improved in the second half after letting Orlando have numerous wide-open shots in the first half. Johnson, who had made just three 3-pointers all season, hit all four of hers in the first half.

Johnson was scoreless in the second half and Sales had just three points.

ROCKERS 52, LYNX 47: At Cleveland, Merlakia Jones scored eight of her 13 points over the final 3:23 and the Cleveland Rockers extended their home winning streak to 11 games with a 52-47 victory over the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday night.

Jones missed nine of her first 10 shots from the field, but made four straight mid-range jumpers down the stretch. The last of those put Cleveland ahead to stay at 48-47 with 1:10 to play in a game that featured 23 lead changes and seven ties.

Katie Smith scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half for Minnesota.

Smith, who leads the WNBA in scoring at 24 points a game, was 0-for-5 from the field in the first half. She hit her first four shots of the second half — all 3-pointers — to help the Lynx turn a 23-17 halftime deficit into a 40-38 lead.

Smith has led the Lynx (5-7) in scoring in every game this season.

Cleveland (11-4), which has not lost at home since last July 20, bounced back from a 58-55 loss at Charlotte on Saturday night.

Cleveland's Eva Nemcova played for the first time in exactly one year and made an immediate impact. The all-star forward, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee last July 1 at Los Angeles, hit a 3-pointer 35 seconds after entering the game to give the Rockers a 14-13 lead.
