New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has moved out of the city's official residence, a judge has revealed, meaning he must pay $1,800 a month in temporary child support while his divorce case proceeds.
In her order, State Supreme Court Justice Judith Gische noted that Giuliani no longer lives in Gracie Mansion, which is occupied by wife Donna Hanover and the couple's two children. The judge said this makes Hanover "the custodial parent, entitled to child support."
Giuliani reportedly has been living with two friends and political supporters.
The judge's order is retroactive to May 1, the date the mayor stopped putting his salary into a joint account with Hanover to pay marital expenses. The retroactive amounts are payable at $500 a month until they are paid, the judge said.
Hanover had asked for $3,200 a month and for Giuliani to pay 85 percent of their children's education, medical and child care bills.
The judge also denied Hanover's request to have Giuliani pay for her personal assistants, including a press secretary, and for temporary maintenance of $3,000 a month. The judge said Giuliani and Hanover have comparable incomes and can support themselves.
Giuliani earns $195,000 a year, a salary set by law, while Hanover, a television personality and actress, earned about $225,000 last year and will earn about $150,000 this year.
The child support battle is the latest development in the couple's bitter divorce case. Hanover has already won a court order banning Giuliani's girlfriend, Judith Nathan, from Gracie Mansion.
