KITZBUEHEL, Austria ? After 12 years on the World Cup, overall leader Stephan Eberharter of Austria finally posted a win on the circuit's most notorious slope Friday, winning a men's super-G on the Streif.
Eberharter, who will ultimately be seeking the more prestigious downhill victory Saturday, charged down the glittery but treacherous Streif course in 1 minute, 18.91 seconds for his second win in as many super-G races.
Italy's Alessandro Fattori, who has a history of solid results in Kitzbuehel, placed second in 1:19.32 for his best career finish in the discipline.
Swiss veteran Didier Cuche, who triumphed here in a downhill in 1998, was third in 1:19.78.
American super-G world champion Daron Rahlves narrowly missed the podium again this year, crossing fourth in 1:19.85.
"It was a lot harder than I thought," said Rahlves, who finished fourth in last year's super-G and third in the downhill. "My line wasn't as clean as it should have been, but I had to be smart.
"I really feel on top of it, and I'm really looking forward to coming down the Streif in tomorrow's downhill. Bring it on."
