The queen of England is a fan of Hercule Poirot.

Queen Elizabeth II expressed admiration for Agatha Christie's cerebral Belgian detective Tuesday as she conferred an honor on David Suchet, famous around the world for portraying Poirot on television.

"She said she was particularly delighted to be able to give me this award for the pleasure I had given to her and the family and the nation," said Suchet, who has played Poirot in 11 television mysteries since 1989. "It was really special."

Suchet, 56, was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire, or OBE, for services to drama. He said the honor would have pleased the fictional sleuth.
