Franklin S. Forsberg, former ambassador to Sweden, passed away March 29, 2002 at Greenwich Hospital of compl-ications following a fall at his home. He was 96.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Charles E. Forsberg and Anna Olson Forsberg. He received his early education in Salt Lake City, grad-uated from the University of Utah, and obtained a Master's Degree from New York University. He maintained active ties to Utah through the National Advisory Council of the University of Utah. He was an original member of this council and attended regularly as an active and emeritus member.

His professional life was primarily in the publishing business. He served as a colonel in the U.S. Army in charge of publications and media in World War II. He founded "Yank" and oversaw the Army News Service and publication of "Stars and Stripes."

From 1981 to 1985 he served as U.S. Ambassador to Sweden.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Rountree Forsberg, of Greenwich, CT; a daughter, Kristin Forsberg Williams, sons Lars and Erik, and five grandchildren.
