BLACKFOOT, Idaho (AP) — A building that has seen its share of church services and government business goes on the auction block Wednesday.

The Blackfoot Civic Center, a former tabernacle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is up for bids.

The structure listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings has hosted church conferences, funerals, public meetings, concerts, beauty pageants and high school graduations.

It also has housed Bingham County offices. But the county commissioners say it became a white elephant — more expensive than beneficial.

The building was appraised in 2000, but the amount has not been disclosed. The commissioners are asking for a minimum bid of $150,000.

The structure was built by the church around 1929. The county bought it in the early 1970s for more office space.
