PROVO — Some roads will be closed until the Independence Day "Stadium of Fire" event is over and the area surrounding LaVell Edwards Stadium is determined safe, officials say.
- Traffic areas that will be closed include:
150 East from Stadium Avenue to University Parkway, which will close at 4 p.m.
Stadium Avenue from 150 East to 330 East, which will close at 4 p.m.
University Parkway from University Avenue to 450 East, which will close at 7:45 p.m.
150 East from 1230 North to University Parkway, which will close at 7:45 p.m.
All BYU parking lots immediately south and southeast of the stadium, as well as the Miller Field Baseball Stadium, the track and field areas and all of Helaman Halls will be closed at 7:45 p.m. to car and foot traffic.
National Fire Protection Agency regulations require a fallout-safety zone to protect the public from debris from the fireworks.
The main area of concern for fallout from the fireworks is 150 East between University Parkway and 1230 North.
The anticipated large crowds for the event also make some parking restrictions necessary. The restrictions are as follows:
Recreational vehicles are required to park in Lot 37.
Recreational vehicles and buses may allow passengers to disembark near the stadium before the roads are closed but must park in Lot 37. No buses or recreational vehicles will be allowed to park west of LaVell Edwards Stadium.
Disabled and handicapped parking for automobiles is available in Lot 45 just west of the stadium, but there are only a limited number of stalls, which will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Public parking is available at the Marriott Center and on the main BYU campus. The lots south and southeast of the stadium will not be available because of fallout restrictions.
After the event, individuals traveling north should take University Avenue to either Orem Center Street or 800 North to get to the freeway. University Parkway is usually fully congested.
Bicycle parking will be allowed in racks on the northeast, northwest and southwest sides of the stadium. Please do not chain bicycles to the stadium structures.
