VERNAL - Edwin Joseph Winder, 92, passed away on July 24, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah from causes associated with an accident in his home. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on August 12, 1909 in Vernal to Edwin Joseph and Ada Calder Winder. He married Virginia Dykes on February 3, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Joseph graduated from Uintah high school and Brigham Young University (Accounting); Accountant for Vernal Motor Sales; Owner/Manager of Vernal Office Supply.
He is a veteran of World War II. He was in the finance department of the First Army and served in England, France, Belgium, and Germany.
Served on State and County Historical Society, Uintah Arts Council, and several boards and service groups.
An active, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Former Stake Clerk, Bishop, Scouter (Silver Beaver), stake missionary. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, son Kenneth (Kareen) Winder, Roosevelt, Utah and daughter JoAnn (Robert) Hunting, Vernal, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, a sister Ada (Walter) Busch of Vernal.
He loved life. He found great enjoyment fishing, hunting, hiking, traveling, gardening, reading, studying history, spending time with his companion and family, and genealogy.
He was preceded in death by a son Dennis Eugene Winder, sister Mary, brothers George, Rex, and Wallace.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the Vernal Second-Fourth Ward LDS chapel at 235 E. 600 S. in Vernal. Friends may call at the Spafford Funeral Home at 224 E. 500 S. in Vernal from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26 and 10:00 - 10:45 prior to services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under direction of the Spafford Funeral Home.
