Burbank (Calif.) Airport is set to become Bob Hope Airport.

The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority voted unanimously Monday for the name change honoring the late comedian, and it could be effective before the end of the year, pending approval from the three city councils.

Council members from Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena have expressed support for the tribute to Hope, who died of pneumonia at his Toluca Lake home on July 27.

Hope told his family he would appreciate an airport in his name when Orange County officials renamed their airport after his friend John Wayne in 1979. "He was always a little jealous of John Wayne," said Hope's daughter, Linda.

She said Hope often flew in and out of the airport and kept his private jet there.
