Leone Evans Burnett, age 87, gracefully passed away Thursday, April 17, 2003. Her death came 26 years to the day from her husband's death in 1977.
Her life was spent in loving and compassionate service to friends, family and every life she touched, including the fourth graders at Washington Elementary School, where she tutored weekly. Her gentle and consistent encouragement will be very much missed.
She was born to Roscoe W. Evans and Eva Smith Evans June 23, 1915, in Salt Lake City. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served in callings in every auxiliary and faithfully served three missions. As a young woman, she served in the Southern States under LeGrand Richards. As companion to her husband, she served in the Northwestern States. After her husband's death, she served in the Texas, San Antonio Mission.
She married Ivan Marcell Burnett in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 16, 1938. They became the parents of seven children. They lived for many years in the Portland, OR area where they raised their family.
Leone is survived by six of her children, Roscoe William, (Lorna), Pa-tricia Van Woerkom, Richard (Fay), Darrell (Christi), VaLois Kitchen (Greg), Blaine (Susan); 57 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren; sisters, LaRue Howarth, Maxine Tuckett; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Bowers. She was loved as a mother and grandmother by Ed and Sally Wyne and their posterity. She was preceded in death by her husband; eldest son, Ivan Marcell Burnett (Cheryle Garner); and two grandchildren.
Services, Thurs. April 24, 2003, 12 noon Capital Hills LDS First Ward Chapel (413 N. West Capitol, Salt Lake City). Burial, Portland, OR Sunset Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
