Provo-based Novell Inc. has agreed to sell a five-building campus in North San Jose, Calif., to eBay Inc.

EBay and the city of San Jose unveiled the plans Wednesday that will keep the company's headquarters in San Jose and facilitate the purchase of the North San Jose property to accommodate eBay growth.

The purchase price on the 511,000 square feet of Novell space was not disclosed. EBay said the city will assign to eBay its right to purchase an adjacent parcel of approximately 15 acres of land from Novell and the accompanying development rights. San Jose also will provide additional development rights on the combined property to eBay. The entire package provides eBay space to develop up to 2 million square feet of office and research and development space.

Novell spokesman Bruce Lowry said Novell once had about 500 employees in San Jose, but the company now has fewer than 100 there. Novell likely will move from the campus but retain a presence in the valley, he said.
