YORK, Pa. — A kindergarten teacher has been arrested for allegedly robbing a bank of about $2,500 over the weekend.

Marc Lauer, wearing a knit hat, gloves and a Halloween mask, walked into an Allfirst Bank on Saturday and handed a teller a note that read, "20's and 100's No tricks! I have a gun," police said.

Lauer, 43, got away with $2,540, authorities said. He was caught a short time later after a short foot chase with officers. Police Capt. Bruce Veseth said Lauer didn't have a gun.

Lauer, in his fourth year of teaching at Phineas Davis Elementary School, called Principal Joanne Boston later Saturday to tell her he wouldn't be back for the rest of the year.

"It's so shocking," Boston said. "He sounded very upset and told me what happened. He said, 'I'm really going to miss you guys.' "
