Mortal life came peacefully to a close for Elaine, who died at home of cancer. In the months preceding her death, her thoughts centered on the hereafter, eager once again to be anxiously engaged.

Until recently, Elaine served as Stake Relief Society President and as a temple worker. From 1978 to 1984, she was the Young Women General President, and served in many other assignments at the

General Church level.

Born on April 9, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Elaine Winifred Anderson was the second child of Aldon Joseph and Minnie Egan Anderson. On March 25, 1943, Elaine married D. James Cannon in the Salt Lake Temple. They had six children together.

Surviving are family members: Nadine A. Cook, sister; Miriam Anderson and Deon Anderson, sisters-in-law; and her daughters: Carla; Susan McOmber (Bryant) of Palo Alto, CA; and Holly Metcalf (Richard) of Seattle, WA; daughters-in-law: Rebecca R. Cannon, and Katherine W. Cannon-Anderson; also 25 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for noon on Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Arlington Hills-Federal Heights Wards Chapel, 1300 E. Fairfax Rd, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may greet the family prior to or following the services. Arrangements are with Garner Funeral Home.
