1922 ~ 2004

An Elect Lady, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 22, 2004 in Bountiful, Utah.

Naomi Maxfield Shumway was born October 3, 1922 in Provo, Utah to Albert Elias and Orilla May Brown Maxfield. She married her sweetheart Roden Grant Shumway on March 8, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Naomi was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served for 30 years in the Primary Organization as a teacher, ward and stake President, a member of the Primary General Board, and General President of the Primary Association for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Naomi M. Shumway was a member of the Utah House of Representatives, and a member of the National Cub Scout Committee. She received the Silver Beaver and Silver Fawn Awards from the Boy Scouts of America. She cherished her LAG friendships for over 60 years, and her many study groups for over 50 years.

She is survived by two daughters and one son, Sharene (John) Oman, Franklin, Tennessee; Janalee (Lynn) Moncur, Salt Lake City; Roger Grant (Janet) Shumway, Kaysville; 15 grandchildren, Stephanie (Tyler) Holbrook, Matthew, Emily, Elizabeth, Shalyce Oman, Amy (Colby) Burleson, Pvt. 1st Class Philip M. Christensen, Tyler, Brock, Braquel Moncur, Roger Jr. (Carrie), Jenny (Matthew) Wright, Katie (Erik) McKay, Michelle (fiance Ben Earnest), Jacob Shumway; three great-granddaughters, Savanna and Emery Holbrook, Sara Shumway; two sisters Leah Sims, Karen Anderson; three brothers Vard, Wendell and Ronald Maxfield. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday May 26, 2004 at the Bountiful 24th Ward Chapel, 720 East 550 North, Bountiful at 12 noon. A viewing will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main Street from 5:30-8:00. A viewing before the Funeral Services will be held at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Interment at the Bountiful City Cemetery.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Primary Children's Hospital.
