Gene Kwon, owner of the Mikado restaurants, has launched the Latitude Restaurant Group, which will serve as the umbrella organization to Kwon's restaurants in Utah and other Western states.
Mikado, which began in downtown Salt Lake City in 1958, was acquired by Kwon in 1991.
The Latitude Restaurant Group includes Mikado locations in downtown Salt Lake City, Park City and Cottonwood; and Kampai in Park City. The group also is expected to open Hapa Grill this fall in Kimball Junction near Park City and in Las Vegas. Kwon expects to open Hapa Grill in other Western states over the next year.
In partnership with David Elmore and Donna F. Tuttle, the group also is opening Harry's, an Asian-inspired steak house, in the E Center. Harry's will replace the Wasatch Grill, which is currently open only during events at the E Center. Harry's is expected to open in July.
