LOS ANGELES — Mwadi Mabika scored 21 points, and Laura Macchi had career highs of 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Sparks to a 96-76 victory Wednesday over the Washington Mystics.
Lisa Leslie added 18 points for the Sparks, who established a season high for points while earning their eighth victory in nine games.
Alana Beard and Chastity Melvin scored 16 points apiece for the Mystics, who have lost three straight games and four of five. Chamique Holdsclaw added 15 points.
MERCURY 87, SILVER STARS 55: At Phoenix, Diana Taurasi had 19 points, six rebounds and four assists, and the Mercury snapped a five-game losing streak.
Plenette Pierson scored a season-high 20 points and Penny Taylor added 16 for Phoenix.
Adrienne Goodson and Agnieszka Bibrzycka had 12 points each and LaToya Thomas 10 for San Antonio, which lost for the seventh time in eight games.
