Macs Hobby and Crafts Inc. is pulling out of the Utah market, closing its three Utah stores.
The Boise-based crafts retailer confirmed Monday that it will close its three remaining stores in Utah. A fourth, in Bountiful, closed earlier this year.
"We would like to express our appreciation to our loyal customers and wonderful employees for their continued support over these many years," the company said in a statement.
However, the statement said, "After more than a decade of doing business in the Salt Lake City area, Macs is closing its three remaining Salt Lake area locations."
When contacted Monday, Macs spokeswoman Carole Clement declined to comment on when the stores will close or why, or how many employees will be affected by the closure.
The company did say that its Idaho stores will remain open.
All remaining merchandise at the Utah stores will be discounted for quick sale, including newly arrived fall merchandise. All pending custom floral and picture framing orders will be processed and completed, the company said.
The three Utah Macs stores are located at 2334 E. 700 South, 725 E. 10600 South and 7046 S. Redwood Road. Its Idaho stores are in Boise and Nampa.
The company's Web site, www.macshobbyandcrafts.com asks customers to vote on possible locations for new Macs stores. The Web site does not indicate a time frame for when a new store may be built, nor does it specify when the company will make a decision about whether or where to build.
