Police investigated Monday two separate weekend homicides that happened about 13 hours apart from each other.
Oscar Arrieta-Simon, 19, of Hyrum was shot and killed during an argument at Logan's Willow Park, near 500 West and 700 South, on Sunday about 3:40 p.m. Police said the shooting had "gang impli—cations."
The incident began when two groups met at the park to settle their differences, Logan Police Capt. James Geier said. The dispute was mainly between two people, he said, although there were four to five people present. They had apparently previously arranged to meet at the park.
An argument between the two parties escalated, and Arrieta-Simon was shot multiple times, Geier said.
Two friends drove Arrieta-Simon to Logan Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police later located two people of interest in Perry and questioned them. Charges were filed Monday against two persons of interest, both Logan residents, who were booked into the Cache County Jail on investigation of the homicide.
Armando Aguirre, 23, was charged with murder in the first degree and Ruben Flores, 19, was charged with obstruction of justice and aggravated assault, both second-degree felony charges.
Logan City Police have concluded that the altercation took place as a result of ongoing hostility between those involved, according to a statement made by the department. Police have determined that the shooting was gang related but are still questioning whether the victim was an actual gang member.
In a separate shooting earlier in the day, Linda Wolfgram, 20, was shot and killed and another man critically injured outside a Salt Lake City apartment complex, 615 S. Redwood Road, about 2:30 a.m.
Wolfgram was attending a party in one of the apartments when a group from the apartment below allegedly went upstairs to talk to the partygoers, Salt Lake City police detective Dwayne Baird said.
When that confrontation ended, several people at the party went downstairs to confront the other group again, Baird said.
Wolfgram was with the group but did not actually confront anyone, he said.
Unknown to the group from the party, at least two people from the other group had gone to the side of their apartment. When the group from upstairs reached the downstairs apartment, two men opened fire on them, striking Wolfgram and another man.
The search continued Monday for suspects.
