PROVO — The 10-year-old actress who plays Mary Lenox in Center Street Musical Theatre's "Secret Garden" would almost rather act than breathe.

She doesn't mind the long hours of rehearsal, the tedium or giving up playtime because for Lauren Faber, acting is the best kind of fun.

"I don't want to do anything else but act," said Lauren. "I love it."

In fact, she'd like to make it a career if she can.

She's following in the footsteps of two of her big sisters who've been involved in productions at the SCERA several times.

Lauren started out taking the classes offered at Center Street and picked up the part of Gavroch in "Les Miserables" followed by the part in "Secret Garden." She's already cast in "Annie Get Your Gun."

"She never gets nervous. She learns quickly," said her mother, Leah Faber. "She really loves it. She even dropped dance this year because dance interferes with her theater."

Director Gavin Grooms said Lauren is phenomenal in the part. "She's a powerful little actress who dances and sings. We use all of her talents in this show."

Grooms said Georgia Wadsworth, who plays Lily, is also impressive as is Raymond Zentz in the role of Dr. Craven.

Grooms said "The Secret Garden" offers a magical look at a little girl who finds solace and peace in a neglected garden.

"It's a wonderful production," he said. "It's been well- received. Our crowds have been really good even though in summer you are competing with more theater."

Lauren said the play is "not really a funny play but kind of like more serious. The best part is the music," she said. "I like 'Lily's Hazel Eyes.' It's my favorite because of the words and because of the people who sing it."
