PARK CITY — And then there was one.

Entering Tuesday's game, top-ranked Park City and No. 2 Wasatch were the only two girls soccer teams left with an unblemished record. After Park City's 3-0 win, the Miners stand atop the standings all alone.

"I didn't think we played our best game today," coach Chip Cook said. "I was pleased with the result. We had a couple of real nice con-

versions when the opportunity presented itself, but you have to give Wasatch credit, they played a good game. We had a couple of breaks go our way."

The Miners have been making their own breaks all season. With returning players such as reigning 3A MVP Kelly Isleib and all-state returnees in goalkeeper Alex Phillips and forward Elli Reed, it is not that surprising that Park City is on top. What is shocking is the freshmen who have come in to make the Miners a complete team.

"We have six freshmen that are playing varsity, and each one of them is contributing in some way," Cook said. "In addition to the great upperclassmen that we have, these freshman have stepped in ready to play, and have made this program what it is this year."

One of the freshmen who played a major role in the win was sweeper Lindsi Lisonbee. She controlled the back and kept the defense organized. She cleared away long balls and distributed the ball to begin the attacks. In fact, it was her run that got the Miners' offense started.

After a scoreless first half, and the first 15 minutes of the second, Lisonbee took the ball all the way in the back. She beat a couple of players with her dribble, and continued her run as she passed the ball to the outside to Alyssa Von Puttkammer, who took it toward the left end line. Von Puttkammer centered the ball into the penalty area where Lisonbee got a foot on the ball and redirected it to Marlee Davis, who put the ball into the corner.

It was a momentum-shifting play as Wasatch had squandered two goal-scoring opportunities in the first minutes and had been controlling more of the play in the second half. But with the goal, the tide was turned in Park City's favor. in the 60th minute, Elli Reed scored on a free kick from 19 yards that was created when Isleib dribbled toward the goal and was fouled.

In the closing minutes, another of the Miners' creative freshmen made a play. Starting midfielder Hanna Terry beat a defender going to the right corner. She sent a perfect ball all the way across the goal mouth where Kelsey Onysko slammed it in the net for the finishing tally.

They may compete in the 3A classification, but the Miners just may be the top team in the state — period. They have wins over Alta, Skyline and Fremont of 5A, and Provo of 4A.

"I think girls soccer is a little bit different," Cook said. "If you get a couple of strong club teams feeding into the school, the team can be good. A strong team in any class can play with another strong team no matter how big the school."
