The Metropolitan has named Todd Mark Miller its new executive chef. Miller has been featured in Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazines and was named one of Restaurant Hospitality magazine's "2005 Rising Stars." A former executive chef at Cafe Trio and Fresco Italian Cafe in Salt Lake City, Miller most recently worked at the upscale Philadelphia restaurant Barclay Prime.
While in college, Miller began working at Deer Valley Resort. He moved to Las Vegas to work at Prime at the Bellagio Hotel and Four Seasons at Mandalay Bay. He was executive sous chef at Four Seasons' Resort Maldives and was chef de cuisine at Four Seasons Singapore.
Blimpie restaurants have replaced the company's wheat bread with a new whole-grain wheat bread for its deli-style sandwiches. The new U.S. Department of Agriculture's dietary guidelines recommend consuming at least three servings of whole grain daily. A Blimpie 6-inch whole-grain roll equals one full serving (16.8 grams) of whole grain. According to the Whole Grains Council, sales of whole-grain bread have increased 18 percent since the new dietary guidelines were introduced a year ago.
Subway restaurants have launched a support group called Fresh Resolutions to help people keep their goals to eat right. Jared Fogle, the Subway spokesman known for losing 245 pounds, will make motivational calls to those who register for the program at subwayfreshresolutions.com. Throughout this week, a team of American Dietetic Association nutritionists will staff a hotline offering free nutrition tips and advice at 877-669-37374 from 1-9 p.m.
Also, through Feb. 19, Subway customers can receive a Fresh Resolutions game card to win prizes such as Bally Total Fitness and Blockbuster memberships, free gasoline, a $5,000 savings account and vacations to a Beaches Family Resort.
