By the time Washington Terrace gets a branch of the Weber County Library, it will have been more than 12 years since a branch was built in Weber County.

When the Pleasant Valley Branch Library opens in spring 2008, it will be one of the largest libraries in the Weber County system, said Lynnda Wangsgard, director of Weber County Library Services.

"It's a pretty good day," Wangsgard said following Tuesday's Weber County Commission meeting, in which the commissioners approved the sale of $6.95 million in sales-tax revenue bonds to fund the library's construction.

The AAA bond rating from Standard and Poor's — the highest rating possible — was a bonus for the commission, and will save the county "tens of thousand of dollars" in interest, said Commissioner Craig Dearden, in a news release.

The new library will consist of a 35,000-square-foot building with a 270-seat lecture hall — the largest of its kind in Weber County — and can be used for community events, Wangsgard said. The branch is expected to hold about 100,000 items, including a large digital collection.

The Pleasant Valley Branch, which will be located at 5568 Adams Ave., takes its name from a ranch owned by Doug and Elaine Stephens, who donated 4.25 acres of land for the library.
