Family: Wife, Arvella; five children; 18 grandchildren. All five children are involved in Christian ministry.

Education: Bachelor of Arts from Hope College in Holland, Mich.; Master of Divinity at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Mich. Ordained in the Reformed Church of America in 1950. Numerous honorary doctorates, including ones from Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., and Hanyang University in Seoul.

Occupations: Pastor at Ivanhoe Reformed Church in Chicago, 1950-1955. Founder and former senior pastor of the Garden Grove Community Church, now the Crystal Cathedral, in Garden Grove, Calif. Retired as senior pastor in 2006, but remains as chairman of the Board of International Ministries.
