Two credit union presidents were indicted in federal court Wednesday after they allegedly embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from the financial institutions they worked for.
Linda Carson, Tooele, former president of the Grantsville Credit Union, is accused of creating fictitious accounts and loans at the credit union and then transferring money to her own and family members' accounts, according to documents filed in District Court.
According to the indictment, she misappropriated money between October of 2004 and April of 2005 exceeding $125,000.
Douglas Gurr, North Salt Lake, who was president of the Chevron West Credit Union, is believed to have purloined nearly $200,000 after adding unearned overtime wages to his personal payroll checks. Charges claim he also deposited the money into his own account and the accounts of family members, and received unauthorized reimbursements for personal expenditures.
Both Carson, 42, and Gurr, 52, are charged with embezzlement by a credit union officer or employee and face maximum terms of 30 years in prison and $1 million in fines if convicted.
